The first Xbox was introduced to the world on 15 November 2001 by the Microsoft Corporation as competition to Sony’s PlayStation and the Nintendo GameCube. However, after initially proving very popular, the games console market proved very competitive. In 2005, Microsoft made a loss of four billion dollars on the Xbox gaming system and its production ceased in August 2005.

Microsoft remained undeterred and in November 2005 they launched the Xbox 360 in time for the Christmas market. The new Xbox 360 has proved very popular and has carved a niche in what is still a very competitive market.

The Xbox 360 is for serious gamers with everything you need to start playing right away contained in the box. There are now over 700 games to choose from in the Xbox 360 collection and numerous accessories.

The Xbox 360 Arcade System comes complete with an additional 5 super arcade games plus Xbox Live Silver Membership. With a 256MB Memory Unit and a wireless games controller you can really get into the action straight away.

Players can compete against each other online on Xbox LIVE as well as being able to chat to people around the world Vision Cam or Chat Pad. Xbox LIVE also allows you to download live arcade games as well as films and music.

In some ways it was sad to see the demise of the original Xbox as it was a great product. However, the new generation of Xbox 360 games consoles, games and peripherals has certainly not let Microsoft down and they will continue to be an active player in the games console market.
