iPod
The ever popular iPod burst into the world on 23 October 2001 and has proved to be a huge winner for its designers and marketers Apple Inc. Up to September 2007; Apple had sold an incredible 150 million iPods worldwide, and with new and more innovative models being introduced all the time, sales of the iPod range do not look like slowing down.
The iPod is a portable media player that comes with Apple’s own software, iTunes, primarily to enable the user to transfer music files from computers via recognized operating systems to the player. The latest iPods are so much more than music players though. Other compatible items such as films, games, videos, photographs plus much more can be transferred to the device.
Apple is always looking at innovative ways to enhance their iPod range and new models and designs are constantly being developed. The iPod Classic model stores data on an internal hard drive but other models such the iPod Touch, iPod Nano and the iPod shuffle use flash memory to enable Apple to make them smaller.
iPods come in all shapes and sizes and with numerous snazzy colour schemes. There are lots of accessories too ranging from covers, earphones and devices to enable you to play your iPod via your car radio. You can also play an iPod by attaching it to speakers or a docking station.
The different models have varying degrees of capacity. The iPod Classic for example is now available with 120GB of storage which means it can hold up to an impressive 30,000 songs, 25,000 photos or 150 hours worth of video.
Since 2001 Apple have managed to become an exciting and innovative leader in terms of the portable media market to the point where their iPod is one of the most instantly recognized brands in the world. It looks like iPods are here to stay.
