What is Search Engine Ranking and how does Search Engine Optimization effect it?

A term often associated with Search Engine Optimization is Search Engine Ranking (SER); this is where your site is placed within search engines such as Google, Yahoo or MSN.

Most SEO's will refer to the ranking within the SERPs' or search engine results pages. These are the results pages generated when searches are performed by internet users, they rank websites via a number of factors, often called an algorithm. In Googles case, this algorithm could have as many as 200 variables and to gain high rankings takes time.

With the number of variables being so high, to gain a high rank, you will need more than just a listing within the search engines, you will need some form of Internet Marketing, normally SEO or Search Engine Marketing (SEM), Drabdesign offers both these services.
