It looks like Google is currently performing a page rank update, what this often means is that a few newer websites will drop over the next few weeks and then return as things settle. Why do I say this? Google Page Rank Updates over the last 8 months or so have had this effect often. They have also got it wrong on a number of occasions as well.
Lets hope this Google Page Rank Update (PR) goes to plan, so that we can relax for another 3 months or so.

Amit Singhal a Google Fellow in charge of the ranking team at Google has written a post on the official Google blog entitled Introduction to Google Ranking.
After a brief introduction about the the world of Information Retrieval (the posh term for the field of search) he rather interestingly says that “We make about ten ranking changes every week and simplicity is a big consideration in launching every change”. Ten changes a week, that in itself should show why there is a need to employ a search engine ranking team to get and keep you higher within Google’s SERP’s.
However I disagree with another statement of his, talking about does Google manually edit it’s results, he says “Let me just answer that with our third philosophy: no manual intervention”.
So why do I disagree, well it happened to this website. I actually got to the top of Google for search engine optimization (UK world wide search) and then had a 7 minute visit from Google.inc, followed by a rapid drop to 18th.

I posted in here previously about a missed cache causing my site to drop, well that missed cache happened a day or so later, but my drop in rankings actually happened hours after a Google.inc visit.
Since this visit by Google.inc I often climb in the search engine ranking to about 8th and then overnight fall back to about 14th or 15th. No reason for it at all, just up and down like a Yo-yo.
There will be a follow up soon on the Google blog, I can’t wait to see what he will add. Until then I will endevour to increase my search engine ranking.

I have just added a page attacking the term Search Engine, why? Well 227,000,000 web pages suggest that any success will look good for our company.
The page offers a full Google search using their search engine, with the results opening up in a new web page. So searching is made easier, after all Google are the kings of Search Engines.

Yes another moan, I have just found one company trying to show how good they are at SEO by attacking Professional Guaranteed SEO, well with 177,000 competing web pages I would expect them to be number 1. But who other than potential clients being told to search it, would search it?
As to the eMarketing Services post earlier, well within hours we are 5th on Google for eMarketing services, I wonder what we will be in the morning for Professional Guaranteed SEO?

A little moan here! I was search on Google for Search Engine Optimization and saw a couple of AdWords ads that took my eye, so I clicked them. One is pertaining to offer eMarketing Services, now to me that is desperation, they have chosen an easy term to get to the top in to impress clients (that said the site is nice), instead of attacking the really big ones like search engine optimization.
The other site (I will not name them, they do not deserve any link juice at all) offers Linkbuilding as if it was something completely different to search engine optimization! Why? Search engine optimization should include both on and off page optimization unless the client only wants a report into how there site looks. Well that’s my opinion anyway.
Just to reiterate, Drabdesign offers both eMarketing Services and Linkbuilding, however we see it all as Search Engine Optimization.

I was looking recently at a website that lists the top 10 search engine optimization companies based on 5 criteria, all to do with rankings for given search terms.
• search engine marketing
• search engine optimization
• search engine optimisation
• search engine ranking
• search engine submission
Now I do not want to cause problems, but I have one with this methodology, why when everyone says search engine submission is not really necessary is this one of the criteria?
Toady it is Monday June 9th 2008 and before today I did not have pages to do with search engine marketing, search engine ranking or search engine submission on my website. This means I have no chance of getting to the top for these search terms and there by become one the UK’s top 10 search engine optimization companies. Well not until now that is. I have about 6 months to get there, wish me luck!

I have just changed the structure of the posts on this blog and added yet more redirects (do not like too many). These Search Engine Optimization changes are necessary, I feel adding long tail (or short ones) to the URL really can have a big effect on Search Engine Optimization.
So the Royal Caribbean Cruise Up For Sale URL now has the words Royal Caribbean Cruise Up For Sail in it, this will enhance its Search Engine Optimization, hopefully!
